First Home Visit

On this day, 10 local Tzu Chi volunteers visited Mr Dlamini, a disabled aid recipient they had visited once before. With most of his family now living in Zakheni, Mr. Dlamini has little or no visitors and being disabled, he has much difficulty in maintaining his home. He was very happy on seeing the arrival of the Tzu Chi local volunteers whom he still clearly remembered from their last visit.

The local volunteers provided him with rice, soup, cake, bread and clothes on which he was happy and grateful to receive. Furthermore, the volunteers divided themselves into four teams to help Mr. Dlamini with organising his home. Team one assisted in washing his clothes, team two in cleaning the house, team three in fetching water and team four in helping Mr. Dlamini bathe himself.

Second Home Visit

Unfortunately, the local Tzu Chi volunteers encountered difficulty with their second home visit with the family resisting their attempts in providing help. They refused to allow the volunteers to visit the granny residing in the home despite their efforts in explaining to them their good intentions of trying to provide food and care. The local volunteers decided to give the family some time in adjusting to the idea of others entering their home to provide help and would return to talk to the family in the near future.

Another resident in the area requiring help was soon identified which encouraged the local volunteers to continue with their mission of the day. This new home, that was brought to their attention, housed a disadvantaged couple; the husband was recently put out of work which left them with little to no funds in purchasing food and other basic necessities. They also have health issues that are difficult to deal with as they find it difficult to travel to the hospital and, thus, have to wait to attend the free clinic that is only provided once a month.

The couple were delighted in receiving groceries, rice, cake, bread and soup from the local Tzu Chi volunteers who gave them an introduction into Tzu Chi and their mission in helping those in need. It was a successful first meeting with the couple giving their thanks and showing their gratitude towards the efforts of the Tzu Chi members.

All in all, it was a successful day with both parties feeling fulfilled in the great love that was shared.
