This day symbolises and holds three very important meanings; the first is promoting the field of reverence; the second is to promote the field of gratitude and the third is to promote the field of compassion. Buddha's day symbolises the field of reverence; Mother's day the field of gratitude and Tzu Chi day, the field of compassion. Together, these three meanings and symbols form a great field for cultivating wisdom and blessings.

During the Buddha Bathing Ceremony, we show our praise and gratitude towards the Buddha's grace and kindness, receive blessings of harmony and purify our hearts by making an offering of light, fragrant water and flowers.

The light is representative of our enlightened spirits, the fragrant water the cleansing and purification of our hearts and a bow as we receive a flower is symbolic of the gratitude we show as we receive blessings of harmony from Buddha.

The annual celebration of Buddha's birthday is a constant reminder to inspire within us an earnest appreciation towards the Buddha, filial piety and gratitude towards our parents and a sense of sincere compassion towards others.
