"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" A little celebration at Jublieum PTA Old Age Home

With Christmas on the way, the Gauteng Tzu Chings went to the Jubileum Pretoria Old Age Home for their annual Christmas visit.

Everyone's spirits were high, especially the oumas and oupas who had been expecting the visit. Following the suggestion by some of oumas and oupas from our last visit, we chose some easy exercises for the elderly to do so they could keep their muscles healthy and fit. We also introduced a new game, the "Zoom game", which the elderly really enjoyed. The aim of the game was to guess the object in a zoomed in picture, with a few clues and hints of course. A short dance session saw the oumas and oupas jiving to the late 90s music. This was followed by a heated game of "Pass the Parcel" in which the oumas and oupas received some pretty interesting gifts.

One of our Tzu Chings shared a video about how happiness is linked with gratitude. This was done through an experiment that tested people on how much happier they could be through how grateful they were about things in their life. I think the experiment's results were really accurate because of how our visit was welcomed by the elderly residents with much gratitude; in return we were thankful that the elderly gave us such a warm welcome which made the atmosphere in the room so much brighter.

We ended the visit with a parcel distribution; the residents received soap, coffee, tea and biscuits, amongst other things. It really warmed our hearts to see the happiness reflected on the elderly residents' faces as we wished them a Merry Christmas and great returns for the New Year.
