Tzu Chi responds to fire disaster victims

On the 20th May 2015, Tzu Chi volunteers from Johannesburg received news from the City of Johannesburg Emergency Response about a fire disaster that broke out in an informal settlement in Region E, Wynberg. Tzu Chi responded the very next day, providing emergency aid to assist the victims of the fire.

The distribution of food parcels that will assist
the victims getting back on their feet
The fire broke out in the settlement of Wynberg due to an unattended stove; as a result, 63 shacks were burnt down resulting in a wreckage that left 100 people homeless. Amongst the victims, 34 were scholars. 
A register of the victims was provided
by local social workers

Tzu Chi received news from Emergency Response on the 21st of May, and were able to gather some volunteers including some residents from a nearby community to participate in a distribution for the victims of the 60 shacks that were affected.

Etiquette and respect

Blankets, food parcels and clothing were included in the distribution on the 22nd of May.
